Natural Remedy for Stomach Flu

Recently Kiddo2 suffered from an intestinal bug (vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps). I remembered that one of my brothers used to get these frequently so called up my mom to ask for her natural remedy.

Here it is:

Boil 500ml of water and add 3 pinches of salt and one fist full of sugar. If your child is vomiting frequently and unable to keep anything down, give them one teaspoon at a time every 20 minutes. The 20 minute interval allows time for processing without overloading the gut. Usually the child should be able to keep that amount down without further vomiting.

As you see that your child is able to keep it down, up the dosage to 2 teaspoons, etc. Once you feel they are able to go to the next stage, boil some white rice in plenty of water. Drain the rice (reserve for later) and give your child the rice water (I added a little salt to help it taste better), again, in small doses at 20 minute intervals.

Once they have been able to eat the rice water, you can then go on to giving them the white rice. Again utilize the teaspoon at a time, in 20 minute intervals until you can see that they are able to digest what they've been eating so far.

After that, take it slow. Try to introduce a piece of dry toast, some boiled carrots, and other easy to digest foods until they are able to eat normally.

We followed these instructions and by the third day she was back to eating normally.
